Teacher an extraordinary being

  A person can make
a huge difference in our life.
Example - teacher.

Teachers are the most important figures in a child's life. A teacher can make so much difference in a person's life, but whether this difference is positive or negative depends on the teacher. I have been blessed to have such great teachers in my life who, unknowingly, have made a great impact on my life.

In the library, I always found our librarian, Miss Petlina, who was no less than a teacher. Her arrival had led to an increase in the number of readers. She encouraged us to come to the library to borrow and read books. My regular visits had made me familiar with her. On learning that I write poems, she encouraged me to not only continue writing but also get them published. Even as I wished her a happy birthday today, she reminded me of the same. I always admire her for her patience and understanding nature; above all, she always makes me feel special.

Another teacher I can't forget is my math teacher, Tr. Diana. I was surprised at how simple math seemed when she taught me. But her classes were not only about math; she would always infuse some general knowledge and moral values. The best time in class was when she would give us sums to solve, and the first ten students (mostly more than ten) would get a star sticker or a smiley face on their books. This really excited some of us, and in that moment, we were kids again. I still remember her on my open day telling my mother, She is a diamond, and diamonds once out of the dark will sparkle. I keep that with me every day, and when times seem impossible, it's these words that help me.

And then there was teacher Katiya and teacher Aleria, my ninth and tenth grade teachers, respectively. Who always pushed me and showed a certain faith in me when they trusted me to read for assemblies, the farewell mass, or the role of a candle in a play. It's this trust that they showed in me that helps me every day.

I don't think a thank-you is enough to express my gratitude for all my teachers. But to all my teachers out there who have been such wonderful role models and support systems, thank you so much. wishing you a happy teacher's day!

Roots or Wings?

"Wings are important but so are the roots", said the dean of my college in her speech at one of the department functions. This led my classmate sitting beside me to ask, "what do you think is more important, wings or roots?" And all I said was "both". But that question stayed with me. As I lay in bed and reflected over my day the question came back to me. I couldn't pick one, but there was one image in the back of my mind. A flock of birds migrating. Maybe it was the word ‘wings’ that brought that image, but when I was thinking about the question, I remembered that although family or in this case my roots are a very strong value to me, I chose wings and the only thing I could relate it to was migrating birds. Birds choose to migrate when there is a lack of chances of survival. They migrate when the climate in their current living situation gets hard to live in or when the availability of food gets uncertain. They move to lands where they believe there...

I see God everyday

I see God everyday. Today, I saw him when my warden, got chicken briyani for everyone on the occasion of Easter, I saw him when my UG college professor said to me "Text when you are feeling low. You are still in my class". I saw him last night at church, when a man offered to buy us candles because the store didn't have google pay and we didn't have cash. I saw him whenever my roommate woke me up to ensure I got my food. I saw him when my friend and roommate who went home for holidays called me to check if I had my food. I saw him when a man stopped his car to let me cross, I saw him when my friends won't allow me to walk back to the hostel by myself after college. I saw him when my siblings randomly called me and said, I am ordering something for you, pick it up. I saw him when my friend's mother said, you are always in my prayers. The funny part is, he kept showing up all along; ever since my existence and even before. I can trace his presence back to as lon...
