I read a quote that said, "Find someone who loves the moon, for he will know to love you when you're not so full." And my first thought was that I should learn to love myself just the way I love the moon. No expectations, just acceptance. I realized that, just like the moon, we too go through different stages—imperfect phases. Sometimes wondrous, sometimes trying.
Every day, little bits and pieces of us are changing. We aren't the same every day. Each day, our feelings and progress may also not be the same. Like the moon, some days we may feel at our best, unstoppable, or high on confidence. Other days we may feel less productive or low, and that's okay. Sometimes the moon gets hidden because of the clouds; similarly, we may face obstacles in life that try to stop us from achieving what we want. Other days, we may feel tired and want to sit back and just be behind the clouds. We also need to remember that wanting or needing to rest for a few minutes doesn't mean being lazy. Rather, it translates to prioritizing oneself over everything. And understanding that there are boundaries we need to set up for ourselves. Some days, like the moon, we may not want to show up. Sometimes situations may be such that we are required to put our foot down and take a stand by not doing anything or, rather, not showing up in places where we feel unsafe or disrespected. And honestly, going through all these phases is perfectly fine. While some days can be very difficult, other days may be in our favor; some days are peaceful, and some days are hectic. Every day brings a new experience.
The moon has always been the perfect example of who we are. And the treatment we give it is the one we deserve, especially from ourselves. No one ever calls the moon irresponsible or lazy for not showing up full every night. Neither has anyone used filters to hide the patches on the moon. Moreover, we have loved and still love and adore it as it is, with all its perfect imperfections.
The moon has been seen as a sign of romance and also as a friend in the lonely night. But after these realizations, I see the moon as a sign of self-love as well.
