It is a broken world.

We live in a broken world, with broken and hurt people. And it might continue to be broken until the end of humanity. Because broken people break people; broken people will unknowingly or knowingly go on to break, hurt and tear others down; and then the cycle goes on. Various psychological research has found evidence repeatedly that a broken traumatic experience hardens people. To the extent that they may become criminals. No one is born that way. We are made that way; by life, by people, by experiences…     No, you do not only hurt someone physically, or verbally. There is indirect hurts that take form in the way we deny others their love for us. Or their right to love us. The very first hurt caused by one human to another in the bible was by Cain when he killed his brother Abel out of jealousy, or maybe because he felt hurt that, nothing he did pleased the lord yet everything Abel did somehow pleased God. His hurt turned into jealousy which led to the first murder in the...

Message from a papaya sapling

Taking a stroll on the terrace, taking in the beauty nature had to offer. Although amidst such beauty, I was preoccupied with counting the number of days left before I had to answer my first TY university paper. My head was clouded with questions and worries. I haven't been motivated to study lately. The connection between my thoughts or intentions and behaviour or actions wasn't optimal. I had been walking back and forth on the terrace. As I was turning to walk back on the path I had just walked, I felt a water droplet on my skin, there were light clouds hovering around. It was thundering now, I decided to go inside. Closing the door behind me, I made my way towards the stairs. As I took the next step, something in my peripheral vision caught my attention. There was a papaya sapling growing through the cemented bricks. Curious, I walked closer to inspect it. I won't lie, although with a good intention I did try to uproot it. However it stood firm, and wouldn't move a b...

Are we ready to be students of life?

Life is one of the greatest teachers, with a unique style of teaching. While in most classrooms practical follows theory. In life's classroom practical experiences help us make our notes, write little books on them or just learn something new. But it is also important to remember that the practical is not going to be the same every time; it's like when we go for a science or psychology practical exams and we have to pick a lot to know our fate, in other words the practical we will have to perform that day. I have lived in an illusion for a while, Thinking - since I got my notes for the first few practical lessons, I was prepared for life. And guess what? life brought me back to reality. This taught me that no matter how many practicals you take, or how much you have learnt from life, you are never prepared for the next lesson life is preparing for you, at least not completely. To put it differently you are always a novice.  I learnt that every lesson or practical is new, diff...

Do We-ings differ?

Sitting in the balcony with my evening tea is the most awaited part of my day. Observing and taking in everything that nature has to offer. The goodnight kiss of the setting sun as life in Goa slows down until morning, gives a warm, hopeful feeling. The breeze and chirping birds never fail to soothe me. I watch as a flock of Egrets fly towards home, and this reminds me of Flamingos and various other birds that are usually in groups. However I don't fail to remember the solitary sandpiper who enjoy solitude while doing certain things. Birds have always been a source of admiration. No two birds are the same, while the common crane flies high the cute penguins make excellent swimmers. Flamingos possess the ability to stand on one leg, on the other hand common tailorbirds sew their nest together. Every bird is unique in its own way just like each one of us. Yet we don't see each other's uniqueness with the same acceptance. How is it that we spend long hours understanding the be...
